The Comfort Ministry was established in 2002. Its goal is to support the church community by providing efficient and effective meals for the family after a funeral or memorial service.
WHAT DO I DO IF I NEED THE COMFORT MINISTRY
- The family calls the pastor or assistant pastor to inform him of the death of a family member and to request the services of the church.
- The pastor or assistant pastor calls the circle president.
- The circle president calls the family to determine needs; if service is desired, number of persons to be served. etc.
- The circle president calls the Co-Chairperson of the Comfort Ministry (Muriel Carter – (410) 542-0940). If unable to reach Mrs. Carter, call the Chairperson immediately, (James E. Coleman (410) 486-5681.
- Muriel Carter informs subcommittees of needs.
- The telephone tree will be activated.
- Persons who are not members of a circle will make the family wishes known through the pastor or assistant pastor. The pastor or assistant pastor will contact the Chairperson or Co-Chairperson of the Comfort Ministry to discuss the family needs.
HOW IS THIS MINISTRY FINANCED
The church body supports this ministry through the envelopes in the contribution box that is marked Comfort Ministry. Also, some family members make a special donation when the service is provided.
CIRCLE RESPONSIBILITY
The Circle is still the primary support for families in the time of bereavement.
- The Circle should see to it that the ministry of Comfort is more than the family repast. The Circle should be in constant touch with the family giving physical and spiritual comfort.
- The circle should assist with the set up, serving and clean up after the repast.
- As many Circle members as possible should be in attendance at the services.
- Resolutions or remarks from the circle should be presented to the family.
